A challenge often levelled at electric aircraft is: “can it go far enough?”
Some say the electric aircraft industry should hit pause until battery energy density - which is improving by 3-5% every year - can compete with fuel-burning counterparts, but this disregards a fundamental aspect of technological progress: iteration. History-defining technologies require not only development time, but dozens of improving iterations in the real world.
From an insurance point of view, this is good. It allows for underwriters and brokers to become familiar with electric aircraft risks over a longer period of time, developing deeper expertise and better products. But we need to be there from the start.
