He’s expressing support for a hot new invention which is drawing opposition from the sceptics. They say it’s an unnecessary toy for the rich, a vanity project, a drain on resources. The quote comes from an 1895 edition of New York World. The man was Thomas Edison. The invention was the motor car.
Think of any technology in daily life and it’s likely that a small number of early adopters paved the way for widespread accessibility. Not long ago, the device you’re using to read this was probably exclusive and expensive, but now it’s hard to imagine life without it.
For this reason, we can expect initial eVTOL operations to serve the VIP market, not only paving the way for more accessible electric air travel, but also empowering the development of aircraft for an exciting diversity of other missions including disaster recovery, agricultural, and life-saving medical response. It’s only just beginning.
